Yesterday Girls Rock Charlotte held an Info Session for potential volunteers. Girls Rock Charlotte is the Charlotte chapter of the organization Girls Rock. Girls Rock is a non-profit that’s purpose is to amplify the confidence and voice of all girls and women through the power of music. A week-long, full-day summer music camp teaches young girls how to play instruments, write songs, and perform them for their family and friends in a concert at the end of the week.
Sounds great right? Right! Volunteers are women passionate about uplifting girls and other women in the Charlotte area to be as creative, confident, and inclusive as they can be. All of the Girls Rock Charlotte workshops are taught by leading women, musicians, artists and professionals in the Charlotte community.
On the Girls Rock Charlotte site, you’ll see a fun statement about coming to a volunteer Info Session that reads, “Come meet us, hear about what we do and how you can help. No obligation… just a great chat with some rockin’ folks! We will share with you the different volunteer opportunities and roles – for our summer camp program, monthly volunteer workshops and more!!” This organization is one that truly values its volunteers and wants them to enjoy their time at Girls Rock.
Some of the positions volunteers can hold are:
- band manager
- assistant band manager
- teen mentor
- musical coach
Other than teaching the camp members about music, Girls Rock Charlotte focuses on other important topics such as:
- Stage Confidence
- Rocking Social Media for Civic Engagement
- Media Literacy & Body Image
- Social Justice and Youth Activist
- History of Women in Rock
- Yoga for Teens and Team-Building
